This Civil Rights Pilgrimage is a journey from sin, to repentance, and finally to reconciliation. We explore slavery, white supremacy, racism, and Jim Crow on this pilgrimage from Greensboro to Montgomery and Atlanta. The full itinerary is available below. Thursday, March 31, 2022 | Depart Greensboro
Your private motocoach departs from Holy Trinity at 7:30am, headed to Montgomery, Alabama. Please arrive at the church at 7:00am to load your bags and greet your fellow travelers. Lunch en route (on your own.) Welcome dinner (included) and introductory conversation with your Montgomery guide. Overnight at Hampton Inn and Suites, Downtown Montgomery.
Friday, April 1, 2022 | Montgomery and Selma
Begin your pilgrimage with a sobering and humbling look at the sins of slavery, white supremacy, and racism with a visit to the Equal Justice Initiative’s museum and lynching memorial. Following lunch, the theme shifts repentance and liberation as we travel to Selma to visit Brown Chapel AME Church and complete a prayer walk from the church to the Edmund Pettus Bridge. You’ll be led by Ronald Smith and Gwen Brown of New Way Revolution, an organization engaged in the work of non-violence, reconciliation, and racial justice. Return to Montgomery for dinner (on your own) and overnight accommodations.
Saturday, April 2, 2022 | Montgomery to Atlanta
This morning, we tour significant sites in Montgomery’s Civil Rights history including Rosa Parks museum and Dexter Avenue Baptist Church and learn about the lesser-known figures in the Montgomery movement led by Wanda Battle. After lunch together, we board our coach and travel to Atlanta, arriving in time for worship at the burial site of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. After worship, enjoy dinner together as a group where you will have time to debrief and unpack your experiences. Overnight at Hampton Inn and Suites, Downtown Atlanta.
Sunday, April 3, 2022 | Atlanta to Greensboro
We conclude our journey visiting with leaders and joining worship at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, a downtown congregation with a rich history and ongoing ministry of racial justice. After lunch (included) we will return to Greensboro by motorcoach. Expect to arrive in Greensboro around 7:00pm.
COVID Precautions: With CDC recommendations and the situation changing daily, visit the CDC website for the most up-to-date domestic travel recommendations. Currently the CDC says it is safe for vaccinated people to travel domestically without testing or quarantine, . We strongly encourage everyone to get vaccinated as soon as possible. We expect some indoor locations to require masks.
Price, Deadlines, and Insurance
This pilgrimage features a tiered pricing system. With 16-19 registered pilgrims, the price is $1375 per person, double occupancy. With 20-29 pilgrims, the price is reduced to $1240. If more than 30 register, the price is further reduced to $1085.
Group travel insurance is available through Progressive Pilgrimage and is underwritten by Allianz. The group travel policy offers a substantial discount over personal policies, but we encourage you to compare insurance options. . Coverage details are available here.
