The City of David is a significant archaeological site that is currently uncovering the earliest settlement in Jerusalem. Dating to the Bronze age, the site is located in a Palestinian neighborhood in East Jerusalem. The City of David ruins predates the Hebrew conquest of the area and was originally a Jebusite settlement. Conquered by David, the ruins may include the palace of King David. The City of David also includes Hezekiah’s Tunnel, which was used to supply water to the city, and the Pool of Siloam.

Our tour will begin above ground where we can view the ruins of the City. Every trip to the City of David is different because the archaeological work is ongoing. We continue around the City before venturing underground to the tunnel system that allowed access to the Gihon Spring. While the City of David was heavily fortified, it lacked a protected water supply and thus required construction of tunnels through the bedrock to access fresh water.
